Welcome to a post talking all things wedding. Today, I’m gonna talk about what Alex & I are doing (or trying to do…) in terms of saving for our big day & then some.
Truth be told, the odds are ever so slightly stacked against us money-wise. Is that stopping us? Oh no, once we want something, we’re gonna make it happen.
We want to save for a mortgage and we are freelancers in one of the toughest industries there is so we’re trying our hardest so save as much as we can, wherever we can! (special mention to Alex’s amazing parents for letting us move home while we save!!!!)
Without further rambling, let’s get into it – shall we?
Saving money? Saving paper? DOING BOTH AT ONCE?! YES! Now we aren’t thinking about sending any yet as it is a while off but we have both decided that it is far easier to invite people online. There are free websites that let you send invites via email (or something) – any invite I have had has been stuck to the fridge then binned so why not just save the paper and the money and the time?!
NO HAIR OR MAKE UP ARTIST
Personally, I’m not into it. I like how I do my hair and make up and I like how my Bride Squad do theirs so why not save the money?
If you have a friend or family member that is great with make up and hair, why not get them involved? People want to be part of your special day and I’m sure there are plenty of talented MUAs (professional or not) that would gift their friend their talents for the day.
NO WEDDING CARS
Our ceremony takes place at the venue so no need to hire cars. Winner. There’s not much more to say really!
If you do require cars and aren’t too fussed, you might have a friend or family member that’d love to drive you in their nice car!
VINTAGE or HIGH STREET WEDDING DRESS
The more I truly think about it, the less bothered I am about finding a wedding dress at a specialist boutique. All I want is the free Champers… I’ve seen stunning dresses online for less than £250 and have heard Brides finding vintage 1930s gowns for £60! It just isn’t a big deal for me. I want something elegant and simple. I don’t need to kill myself over finding the money for a dress I don’t really want. Brides look beautiful whatever they wear because they are shining in the glow of their special day.
Google places like ASOS, Debenhams, John Lewis, Monsoon, JJS House, Oxfam, bride2bride, and stillwhite just for a start!
LETTING MY BRIDE SQUAD WEAR WHAT THEY WANT TO
I know the colour I want, they know that and because I want them to feel good, why not let them go off and find something they want to wear? I’m not mad on everything being a perfect match because I’m not that into matchy matchy in general … Allowing them to choose is a win-win… they can spend whatever they want and if they’re savvy, return it after the wedding … heeheee
Asos, Boohoo, New Look, Pretty Little Thing, JJS House for gorgeous budget dresses!
DIY Decor is something I think all couples in a situation like ours get involved with. With Pinterest our best friend, it’s hard not to want to get stuck in and save those precious pounds!
If your chose themes such as vintage or rustic then you can get away with sooo many cheap/free/second hand decor…
I will deffo vlog/blog what we do as I think it’ll make an interesting watch/read – especially if you’re planning a wedding!
Here’s my Pinterest board for some inspo: https://pin.it/ikggcdczkj3hje
These are just some things we’ve both decided on, as a way of cutting costs. We’re such laid back people with an easy going attitude and a budget to match…
If you’re getting married, or have done or would love to – are there any ways you’re saving the pennies? I’d really love to know!
